The thing that's often missing from ASUS Zenbook reviews is the fact that folks don't demonstrate or discuss how the product feels. They merely review the way it looks and the way it performs. Considering that I own a Zenbook, allow me to describe to you how this machine actually feels in your hands before you go purchase it online.
UX31 UX21 Thickness
Although one model is 11 in. and the other is 13 in., they are basically the same thinness. One merely has a bigger panel. The ASUS Zenbook features a wedge design and style, beginning with the rear being thicker and tapering into extreme thinness at the front. This is visually very pleasing, but also makes it very hard to open your display screen. You really must concentrate and "peel" open the ultrabook. You need to jam your fingertips in it. This might not be a huge deal, but it's a minor inconvenience you might want to take note of.
ASUS Zenbook Construction
Both the UX21 and UX31 are made almost completely using anodized aluminum, which feels very solid and cold in your hands. Aluminum is great because not only is it strong and lightweight, it's also fingerprint proof. The one thing I hate most is having fingerprint grease everywhere on my gadgets, but that's no problem here. The outside of the Zenbook isn't going to attract fingerprints whatsoever.
Keyboard of the Zenbook
When I originally spotted the all-aluminum keyboard on the Zenbook, I thought it might be too slippery to type on easily. However, after using it a few times, I'm able to state that it actually feels very good. Not really slippery at all like I assumed it would be. Obviously not the most pleasant keyboard in the world, however for an ultrabook, pretty darn good. You don't have to worry about bad ergonomics here.
Zenbook Weight
Weighing in at 2.4lb or 2.9lb, based upon which size you get (11 inch vs 13 inch), this is a relatively light device. Definitely not as light as it looks, but light enough so you can very easily hold it with two fingers. In my opinion some people could possibly be turned off by the fact that it's not as light as it looks, however I feel the weight provides this ultrabook a very superior and solid touch. It feels like you are carrying something important in your hands.
