Things to Consider in Changing Your Belief System for Success

If you are noticing nothing seems to be moving forward no matter how much hard work you are putting into getting the results you desire, it is probably because you are using the same skills and perspectives from the past. It is like trying to make a fine wine with old sore grapes from last year's harvest.

It isn't that hard work is without its rewards, but lacking new soft and hard skills it is like a hamster running inside a caged wheel believing he/she is getting somewhere. The hamster is gaining muscle from all the hard work; however, it is limited by staying in place. To move from where you are to where you want to be get out of the wheel to higher ground to observe the forest.

It seems there are two paths. One is to keep doing what you are doing because it is familiar; or be courageous and humble to do what it takes to acquire the knowledge and skills that are beckoning you to move up the ladder to the success you desire, which to me is the "high road to success."

The hardest thing can be change whether forced upon us by circumstances beyond our control or choosing to make a change. The pull of the past keeps sucking us back because it is familiar. But the heart knows best and unhappiness keeps knocking when trying to be what we are not. Our bodies are magnificent messengers.

Moving into a desired future requires growth from the inside out. It takes courage, persistence, humility and commitment on the high road to self-awareness. The growth and opportunities that come from taking the high road are immeasurable and measurable in many ways. Relationships get better, finances increase, health improves and life gets better all around.

Tips to the High Road of Success

Maybe you are already in a position looking for new direction or maybe you are starting over. Whichever position you are in it is your starting point. Every present moment is a new beginning. As William James, the great psychologist and philosopher said, "The greatest discovery of my generation is that man can alter his life simply by altering his attitude of mind."
Make an appointment with yourself to stop whatever you are doing to give it fresh eyes. Find a place where you won't be disturbed or distracted, plus turn off your personal digital assistants. You will use this time to reflect, design and dream about the future you want. Your future is in your hands.Your future warrants taking regular time-out to focus mentally, visually, and spiritually on your desired outcomes. Otherwise you keep manifesting from the past.
There is nothing wrong with the past unless it is running your future. It takes new seeds to sow what you want to reap. It is arrogance to say you know it all. Remember success isn't limited to learning. Lasting success demands developing the soft skills and values of great leaders, such as attitude, humility, courage, tenacity, understanding, commitment, leadership, etc.
After all what are dreams. They are a vision of future possibilities that aren't in existence. Developing dreams without growing from the inside out is deluding yourself, especially if you believe that all you have to do is more of the same work.
Challenge yourself by learning and developing tangible and intangible skills. If you stop learning from the inside out, you are missing the greatest parts of who you are destined to become.
Support from a mentor is a wonderful resource. They will spur you on and encourage you. They will bring to the table their experience. Having a personal and professional coach is an asset to your growth in that they will challenge you from your unspoken potential; not just reaching quotas that after they are reached it is on to another quota. Personal and professional coaching teaches life-long skills that apply to all areas of your life.
Change is challenging, but do you want the change you desire or just complain about it. Change is very uncomfortable when going into the unknown. Design your future map to give yourself an anchor when the going gets tough to remind you why you are doing what you are doing.

10 Things to Consider When Buying a Laptop

A laptop is a large investment, choose wisely or you may end up "investing" twice before you get the computer you really want.

Top ten things to consider when buying a laptop:

1. Size:Yes it's obvious, but is it? Some laptops may look smaller then they are while others may look bigger then they are. You definitely do not want a hulk of a computer if your plan is to lug the thing around campus all day. Here's a general rule for sizing.

>12" = net book - only buy one of these if you don't plan on watching movies or doing intense work with your laptop. While these may be thin and light, they do not have processing power of larger laptops and aren't good for multitasking.

13-14" = Perfect for school or a work situation where you need to move your laptop a lot. These laptops can be small enough to not be a burden and yet powerful enough to handle a large number of tasks.

15-16" = If you need a desktop-replacement-type, but also need to be mobile, this is your system. These computers are large enough to hold all the most recent hardware, but can be light enough to be mobile.

17+ = Only if you truly need a desktop replacement should you invest in a laptop this big. These computers are true behemoths. However, they can offer blistering beautiful graphics and astronomical processing speeds.

2. Processor: The type of processor is almost always the main indicator of how expensive a computer is. Currently the fastest processor available in a new laptop is an Intel Core i7 Extreme, and any laptop with this workhorse will set you back $2500+ At the other end of the spectrum, AMD's entry level single-core processor can be found in systems that start at $269. As a rule of thumb, Intel tops AMD in nearly every category. The current line of i3, i5, and i7 are your best bet. i3 systems should start at $450, i5 at $600, and i7 at $750. Keep those numbers in mind when shopping and you'll come away feeling good.

3. Hard Drive: Hard drives come in all speeds and capacities. The norm is currently a hard disk drive that can run at speeds of 5400, 7200, and 10000 revolutions per minute. The faster the speed, the better the drive. Realistically, 320GB of space is adequate, but laptops now come with 500 or even 1000GB of space.

Solid State Drives are much faster drives that use different technology to perform better. They come in smaller sizes typically, and you'll pay for the speed. If you want super fast boot time, go with a SSD.

4. RAM: This is your computer's short term memory - without it nothing (literally zilch) would get done. The newest laptops will all have the newest model of ram in them, so the thing to keep in mind here is how many gigabytes are offered. 4GB is standard at this point, 8GB is a lot, and 16GB is a true abundance. It's your preference, the more RAM, the more you'll pay, but 4GB is substantial enough to handle most tasks.

5. Graphics Card: The first question to ask is - Does the laptop have a graphics card? A majority of computers don't actually have a card dedicated to graphics processing, they simply use the main processor and RAM to power the visuals. However, if the computer does have a graphics card, there are several things to consider.
1. How many gigabytes does the graphics card support?
2. Is it ATI or Nvidia? - The two companies are contemporaries, but each has its strengths and weaknesses.
3. What level of processing power does it have? Not all graphics cards are created equal, so make sure to research the model of the graphics card to make sure you're not overpaying.

6. Ports: If the computer doesn't have the proper set of ports to connect devices to, problems will arise. Make sure you check all the devices you use in your everyday work to make sure that they will connect to your new laptop. Common interfaces, such as USB, HDMI, SD/MMC card readers, and E-Sata, are all connections you want to make sure are present.

7. Battery Life Somehow laptop manufacturers have gotten away with "embellishing" their descriptions of battery life. If a computer claims 5 hours, it probably gets 3, and so on and so forth. If battery life is really critical to you, make sure you find a laptop that claims 10-12 hours, and you'll get at least a solid 6 out of it. Batteries come in various numbers of cells; 6, 9, and 12 are the most common. The more cells, the more units of electricity that can be stored in the battery, and thus the longer the battery life.

8. Keyboard Is it spill resistant? Is it back-lit? Is it chiclet style or flat? Is it soft to the touch? Ask yourself these things before you buy the laptop and you'll be much happier the next time you sit down to write a research report or type up a blog posting. The keyboard is the second-most used input on a laptop behind the touchpad, and it gets used a lot - make sure you like it.

9. Touchpad Unless your computer is going to sit at a desk all the time, you will probably use the touchpad more than anything to control inputs. There are good touchpads, great touchpads, and awful touchpads. Not every person likes the same thing; some like their touchpad to be textured, others like it smooth, and still others like it soft. Whatever your preference is, take the touchpad for a test drive before you buy the laptop, you'll appreciate it later.

10. Price of Substitutes: How does the computer your looking at stack up to other computers with similar features? Are you finding yourself paying for a brand name or a certain look? Check with other manufacturers to see if there are any promotions running - you can find yourself saving hundreds of dollars.

Two Things We Have to Unlearn Before We Start Our Journey Towards Success

Throughout my life I have had to face challenges and obstacles. I failed to shine in my education, I failed to maintain my relationships, I failed to manage my finances and I failed to keep myself fit and healthy. Every time I managed to get a handle on any of these aspects of my life, others aspects starts becoming a problem. I was firefighting all the time. It began to tire me out and I felt like giving up many times. Thus began my vicious cycle of misery.

It wasn't until I discovered that the cause of these challenges and obstacles was not out there. It was within me and until I worked on myself, I would never be able to get out of this vicious cycle.

When I began my education in personal success, it became apparent that there were two things I learnt (and believed in) that I had to unlearn before I can start to truly live to the fullest the potential of my personal success:
Successful people are born, not madeSuccessful people are always at the right place and the right time

These two learnings shaped the way I made my decisions and the actions I would take and thus the results I get.

So let's talk about the first one.

Learning #1 Successful people are born, not made - NOT TRUE

I used to look at successful people with a lot of envy especially when they were my age. I thought that there were born with a silver spoon and were destined for success and greatness from young because of the circumstances of their birth. My measurements for success were the cars they drove, the clothes they wore and the lifestyle they led (I could never keep up with them). I find myself bearing a little resentment at their good fortune and often wondered why I wasn't born so fortunate.

These thoughts lead me to believe that success is only for the select and privileged few who are destined by fate to become the success stories or the great leaders while the rest of us are destined to live in our lives in the struggle of life.

The mistake I made was to equate those who were born into wealth with those who had developed the skills for success early on in life (let's not go into those who were born into wealth and wish them well for good fortune). Instead, let's ponder about those who had developed the skills for success early on in life.

There is such a thing as the skills for success and that everyone can learn them. Some people (like the ones I looked at with envy above) have simply been able to learn them early on in their life and the successes they enjoy now are the fruits of those learnings. The good news, for those of us that have not been able to learn them early on in our lives, is that we can many have learnt them later on in their lives and are enjoyng tremendous levels of success.

I now believe that 'Success is a skill and any skill can be mastered' and therefore it is something that can be learnt and if something can be learnt, then it can be developed and improved upon. All of us have the potential for greatness and success because we are all born with the ability to learn and therefore the opportunity to grow.

It is those who recognize this and take steps to master the skills of success that can break out of their circumstances and begin to truly be on the path of success. It is unfortunate though that not everybody recognizes and accepts this simple truth and because of that they do not take the efforts to turn their abilities into something that can contribute towards their success.

Learning # 2 Successful people are always at the right place and the right time - NOT TRUE

I use to believe this deeply. As a result of this particular belief, I never bothered to look at my abilities and improved upon them (based on the first learning above). Instead, I spent my time making myself 'available' for success to come. I spent my time waiting for my turn to strike it lucky.

It never came.

I have since learnt that the successful people out there do not wait to be at the right place and the right time because every place is the right place and every time is the right time. They look at their circumstances and environment and simply make the most out of it. They would discover their abilities and skills and improve on them. They would see out to make sure that others would benefit from their abilities and skills and they approach any situation with energy and spirit.

In other words, they do not wait for it to happen. They make it happen.

Our beliefs can be shaped by these two learnings. If you want to begin your journey towards success, it's time to unlearn them because the good news for us aspiring for success is that we too can develop a similar philosophy for success. There is no secret manual where only the few are privileged enough to have access to.

We can all learn it.

Spirit Bears - 10 Cool Things About the Rare White (Kermode) Bear of the Great Bear Rainforest

The spirit bear (also known as the kermode bear) is a rare white phase of the black bear. And in the Great Bear Rainforest, in British Columbia, Canada, the spirit bear is found in high concentration - unique in the world.

Here are some neat things about this creamy-white animal that is catching our attention now -- but has been catching salmon in the inky-green rainforest for thousands of years!

1. Spirit bears are not albinos! Albinos have an absence of pigmentation, but spirit bears have pigmentation: their eyes are dark and when you see one, you see that the skin on their foot pads is dark, too.

2. It's genetic. Why are spirit bears white? It's due to a single recessive nulceotide replacement in one of their genes. Think of it like blue eyes in humans, but extremely rare. In order to be white, a cub must receive the same recessive information in that gene from both parents.

3. There is more than meets the eye. Even black bears in white bear territory carry the white gene - just as brown-eyed people can carry the blue-eyed gene in humans. And they can pass it on to their offspring. In fact more than half of black bears in some parts of this rainforest carry the spirit bear genetic makeup.

4. So a black mum can have a white cub? Yup. And vice-versa.

5. What's the advantage to being a white bear? Scientists have an idea. All of the bears in the Great Bear Rainforest have a heavy reliance on salmon. It provides about 80% of their annual protein. Scientists think that spirit bears standing above rivers fishing are more "hidden" than black bears. Why? Because to the salmon, looking up for danger, the spirit bear is light like the sky. Whereas a black bear would loom dark and foreboding against a light sky. Studies have shown that in daylight hours, spirit bears are more successful at catching salmon than black bears!

6. How did they find that out? If you are thinking it must have involved scientists in bear suits... you are right! Goofy as it sounds, it was actually very scientifically done. One of the key researchers in this is Dr. Tom Reimchen, from the University of Victoria. You can learn more about him on his website.

7. The spirit bear lives in the islands of the Great Bear Rainforest. These islands are covered in cedar, hemlock and fir trees and pierced by creeks and streams where the bears fish in the autumn. We think they may be rarely seen on the mainland and are mostly found on the islands because grizzly bears (brown bears) frequent the mainland fishing areas, and grizzly bears always dominate. So grizzlies would keep the white bears on the islands.

8. What does kermode mean, anyway? Kermode is part of the scientific name for this animal - the part that denotes this "phase" of the black bear. It is from a man called Francis Kermode, an employee of British Columbia's provincial museum, who helped scientists obtain pelts of the animal to study. Spirit bear is a name from the First Nations of the area, who have lived with these animals as long as both have been on the coast, and hold them in high regard. There is even a story that they were created to remind people of the ice age.

9. Are spirit bears protected? Well, interesting question. Yes, but not fully. We need to make sure their supply of salmon and their rainforest ecosystem is protected. But beyond that, it is illegal to hunt a white bear in British Columbia. But the black bears that carry the white gene and can create spirit cubs can be shot. Raincoast Conservation Foundation is working toward that by buying the commercial trophy hunting licences in the area. To find out more, visit their website: www.raincoast.org.

10. How can I see a spirit bear? Your best option is to travel through BC's Great Bear Rainforest by ship. In fact, several responsible tourism businesses, including one owned by my family, have offered spirit bear viewing trips for over 20 years! Taking such a trip helps protect the bears, by providing a conservation-based economy (responsibly viewing the animals).

A white bear is such a surprise in the dark rainforest world. Now you have an inkling as to why it might be there, and the fascinating questions it makes us ask.

Death, Taxes, and Government Jobs - The Only "Sure Things"

In the midst of high unemployment and economic hard times, the guardians of central government say that cuts are just nowhere to be found, but parking lots around federal agencies in Washington are full to overflowing in these hard times--especially since President Obama came to town. Even as he announces that he is reducing regulations, critics note that he increased regulatory jobs by 13% and actual regulations by 60%. One economist said for Obama to say that he is giving us some paltry reduction in regulation is akin to a man who hits you on the head with a wrench and then shakes your hand. The monstrosity that is "Obamacare" waits in the wings with massive regulation unless overturned by the Supreme Court.

According to USA Today, the job security rate is 99.434% at most federal agencies. HUD, which has done such an admirable job in the housing market, has a 99.85% job security rate. They only fire people such as Catherine Austin Fitts, a Christian who once had her own bank on Wall Street. She requested an audit of all off the books money skimmed from inflated real estate mortgages to finance secret black operations by federal agencies, and was asked to leave Washington.

"We've never focused on firing people," says HUD, "and we don't intend to start now. We're focused on hiring the right people." They say the low dismissal rate is a result of their skilled and committed workforce. No, really! They said that. That explains why the President will not agree to downsize the leviathan in Washington--too many valuable resources to implement incremental socialism and nihilism--the gradual degradation of the remnants of the old republic by the miners and sappers deep within the labyrinths of government who assure that secularism and socialism become the norm for a populace weaned from liberty and Jesus Christ--all guided by most Obama appointees who have never worked a day in their lives in the private sector--the fewest private sector advisors to any President since 1900.

The calls for austerity in government echo throughout the land, but OSHA goes on and on--the same OSHA that swooped down on a small nonprofit agency of social workers helping the old, the sick, the shut-ins and the disenfranchised that liberals claim to care about. I was board chairman, and we got rid of some squirrels in our attic by using moth balls rather than an expensive exterminator because money was tight. Someone complained, and OSHA cited us for using "hazardous chemicals." They fined us an amount that would have stocked our food bank for the hungry for three months. They said, "We might forgive you the first time moth ball offense, but not to have our poster up in your work area was--unforgivable!"

For federal employees like those at OHSA, after just a few years on the job, job security soars to near 100%. Even as the real unemployment rate in the private sector stands at 18% or more, the government laid off a whopping 385 people last year in reorganizations...a 0.02 rate...one in every 6,000 employees in its 2.1 million workforce. The nearly half-million federal employees earning "$100,000 or more" enjoyed a 99.82% job security rate in 2010--jobs for life, the mantra of the socialists in Washington. Such high-salaried employees have also increased dramatically under President Obama.

Last year, in the midst of the worst recession/depression in our lifetimes, not one of the 3,000 meteorologists, 2500 health administrators, 1,000 optometrists, 800 historians, or 500 property managers were laid off...and the President's health care bureaucracy has not even begun to gear up the health bill's thousands of new IRS enforcers and committees and boards that have delegated powers of decision making stripped from the legislative branch--all forged in the Senate by seizing a House bill that was passed to help veterans get homes. The House must issue spending bills, and so this bill number was gutted completely and a whole new entitlement was constructed by people who believe that government exists to throttle capitalism, redistribute wealth and engineer social outcomes desired by the omnipresent state.

So, what do Americans have to look forward to? More federal employees are coming to punish you for personal health choices, to fondle your family in airports, to tell you what words are unacceptable at private memorial services at VA cemeteries, to tell Boeing where they can locate new factories, to tell states that they must provide money to abortionists, to populate the new SWAT teams at the U.S. Education Department (I'm not kidding!), and to tell states that don't like any of it--that federal funds will be cut off to ensure compliance with the federal religion.

Only 27 of 35,000 federal attorneys, the modern commissars, who churn out all those helpful misinterpretations of Congressional intent, craft regulations to depress employment in the private sector and penalize achievers, act as indispensable arms of the modern police state, tell private businesses who they can hire and promote, ratchet up costs that are passed on to consumers, shackle American businesses as foreign competitors continue to buy up America, and try to ensure that Jesus Christ is nowhere to be found in their secular utopia, were fired last year. None were laid off. Death claimed 33.

Outside of the ballot box in 2012, death seems the only threat to unemployment for our valued federal workforce.

Savoring life fully means in addition responding to your basic needs in a complete way, because craving something won't put you at rest. Answer all your needs, such as love, security and self-esteem. Get rid of needs that are superfluous so you have more time and energy to take it slow.

2. Slow your pace

Find out ways to have more free time each day. Can you take work to home, where you can save time on traffic and constant coworker's interruption? Other ways to slow your routine is to procrastinate at times, report on next weeks what you would be in a rush to do right now, have fewer activities on your schedule, take time to be with people you care about everyday and/or take time for a long bath.

3. Don't worry

By worrying and bothering about everything you're wasting time and energy over things you can't most of the time control or that don't really matter. If you worry you keep your body in a tense way, you can't relax, and you make a bigger issue out of it. Sometimes, thing can arrange by themselves. Also, if you take your time you can find another way around or become more detached to figure it out.

4. Go with the flow

Picture your life as a river. Are you bumping into each rock, slowing yourself from progress, or do you easily find a way around it to get where you need to be? When you're stuck, figure out if it's a challenge or a blockage showing you another way.

You might be in the right direction, what you want to do might be the next step but you're not ready yet. For example, for my career, I was trying so hard to figure out what to do with my life that being an author almost jumped in face - I was one before I realized I was. I was really good at school, writing all my life and enjoying reading, as well as loving sociological readings and writing as a journalist. It just all came together some day but I could have arrived to it sooner having taken it easy.

So if you're stuck, just relax, meditate and continue to look for what interests you truly, you'll have clues sooner than you think and enjoy life more!

How to Make Sure You Don't Run Out of Things to Say to Your Date - The Tree Branch Theory

Us guys tend to be very regimented when it comes to conversation topics.

It tends to be work, sports, general hobbies, travel, politics (maybe), sex (maybe) and...that's about it.

So when we've gone through our standard question list with a girl of...'what do you do for work?', 'what sports do you like?', 'have you done much travelling'...etc etc then we're fishing for things to say.

What you have to do is be more observant to the possible branches you can go down.

A big oak tree has many thick branches sprouting out of it. Out of these branches grow further smaller branches, then more smaller branches still. At each point there could be a number of different branches you can choose to go down.

It's the same in conversation - a short response from her in answer to a question from you can lead to a number of branches you can go down. For example, if you ask her what she does for a living and she tells you she works as a server in a bar, most guys would ask where, and perhaps how long she's done that for, then they would be stuck.

But there is also the reason why she is there? Is she paying her way through college, or is she trying to get a job she really wants, but stuck as a server right now? What is it she really wants to do? Did she always want to do this, or did she want to be something else as a kid? How does she feel about being a server? What's the rudest customers she's had? How does all of this apply to situations you've been in?

See - a ton of branches there that you could choose to go down at any one time.

And when you go down that branch, you'll find she gives you a ton more branches to choose from.

Us guys need to stop being so linear and regimented in our conversations and to really look for all the information that's given - not just the explicitly stated information, but what is implied by that information. Like when she says 'being a server is OK, I guess', what does that imply? Does she really think it's OK, or does she actually quite dislike it? Is that because she really wants to be doing something else? What is that something?

Most of the time she is unlikely to volunteer this information - you have to be sharp and spot what she is really saying. Then draw attention to it - the 'words behind the words' - that's how you develop a feeling of understanding.

Women get sick of having to spell everything out to us guys - so you need to become adept at really reading what they are telling you. They tend to give us all the information we need - it's just we have to be able to spot it, because they don't often state it explicitly.

So if you combine the tree branch theory with the wide and deep rapport...you will create some really strong, deep connections with women, and be the kind of guy who they can talk to all day and all night long, and never get bored.

When you learn to attract women without even trying, you find women are just drawn to you constantly, without realising why.
