How To Define Your Life Purpose And Truly Live

What Makes You Get Out Of Bed Each Day?

Your life purpose gives you a reason to wake up each morning and face the endeavors of the day. If you are a leader, then all the more your life purpose matters because you influence and carry people with you towards a goal. You probably have a ready answer for what the purpose of your leadership is. In the same way, you might also be prepared with the how's or the methods of achieving your purpose. But have you ever paused to think about the core of your purpose? To have a better understanding of this, you first have to understand the "why's" of your life purpose.

First, Answer the "Why" - The "What" And "How" Becomes Easier

Yes, you know what your life purpose is, but it is not the same as defining what it really is. As a leader, you may be preoccupied with tasks at hand and schedules for accomplishing them. The why's or the essence of why we do things often get lost in the midst of this scuttle. As a result, we lose touch of meaning and value- things that give us pleasure and happiness in pursuing our true purpose.

You might think that it's a waste of time to dwell on meaning or the why's of our tasks. Then again, when you start working from the core - the "why"- working on the "what" and the "how" becomes easier. When you have worked out the reasons of why you do things, your plans and strategies for achieving your purpose will be easier to structure.

Steps On How To Define Your Purpose For Living

Here is an approach on how to start defining your life purpose:

First, ask yourself: What drives you each day? Understand the reason why you get up and face the day head on. If you're working, what is the reason why you're staying in the job? The answer for this could be something very important to you, but that reflects necessity. It may not be the life purpose that gives you focus. The purpose of your life is an expression of the values you hold dear.
Understand your core values. This paves the way for you to better define your purpose. More than your need to earn in your job, ask yourself what gives you career fulfillment or job satisfaction. What are your actuations and responses in different workplace scenarios? Ask yourself why you act the way you do in these circumstances.
Finally, in defining your life purpose, ask yourself what keeps you going when things go wrong in your world. The simple answer to that will bring out your reason for living - your life purpose.
