Being a happy person is a personal choice. This is quite a bold statement to make, but it is true. Within all situations of our life we have the choice of whether to be happy or not, clearly some situations are far more difficult than others. If we are in physical or emotional pain then this makes it extremely difficult for us to focus on being happy. If we are faced with a pleasant experience then happiness comes easily.
More often than not we find ourselves being unhappy due to events in our lives. If someone disappoints us or if we fail to meet expectations, then we may become unhappy. This is especially the case when a friend or partner does something to hurt us, or if we have a bad day at work. When we find ourselves facing these types of problems then we have the choice of being happy or unhappy. If we focus mentally on being happy, then we can turn an unhappy mood into a happy one.
How To Be A Happy Person:
So how can we be happy even when everything seems to be going wrong? Well we need to be able to control our emotions, and try to see the good in things. I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. Being unhappy is largely due to our expectations, so therefore we should try to expect less in life. For example, you spend time expecting that huge promotion at work and when you don't get it your dream is shattered. This leaves you feeling angry and miserable. By expecting less you will allow yourself to be a happy person.
Never allow things to knock you down or set you back in life. For example, you didn't get that promotion at work. Instead of allowing this to eat at you and make you miserable, you should just get back up on your feet, and focus on showing your boss just how good you are at your job. By allowing it to affect you negatively you will prove to your boss that he or she was right in not giving you the promotion.
Being a happy person means living for now. Don't dwell on the negative past, as this can impact on the future. Keep the good memories in mind, and remember that you cannot change the past. However, you do have complete control of your future and therefore your happiness. Always look forward and not back, in doing so you will achieve a fulfilling future and be that happy person that you want to be.
