Learn Some Interesting Facts About Crocodiles

Crocodiles are reptiles from the family of crocodilians, which actually also includes, the alligators, caimans and the Indian Gharial. Crocodiles are generally traced back to the Cretaceous as well as the Triassic period. Crocodilians, in general, are animals of elongated body as well as a long tail, lengthy jaws through which they show a great number of sharp conical teeth (typically 28 to 32 teeth in the top jaw and 30-40 teeth in lower jaw). In crocodiles, the muzzle is narrower in the end, with the 4th tooth on both sides of the lower jaw exposed when the mouth closes.

The crocodiles are semi-aquatic creatures (they will spend a great deal of time in water, but additionally require go to shore for basking) who, depending on species, will be found in rivers, estuaries, coastal regions as well as in the open sea. They swim, frequently on the surface with eyes as well as nostrils along the water line and move their own body using the strong tail.

The Crocodiles are carnivores, and among them, are large hunters such as the Nile Crocodile as well as the Saltwater crocodile. The saltwater crocodile is definitely the biggest reptile in existence, because it may well attain seven meters long and more than 1 tonne (1000 kg) in weight.

As young they feed on smaller animals (insects, fish, frogs), but as they get bigger they begin hunting animals ever bigger, until the size of a big antelope.

Just like the other reptiles, crocodiles are endothermic (cold-blooded, or whose body temperature varies with the temperature of the environment) and, as a result, need to sunbathe, to raise the temperature of the body. If it is overheating, they would prefer water or shade when available.

Crocodiles are oviparous (they reproduce using eggs which are deposited outside of the female's womb) and are the only reptiles that show true parental care. Therefore, almost all the crocodiles construct nests, by using heaps of dirt or plant debris, the remaining species of crocodiles dig burrows on the sand banks of rivers as well as beaches. Females, in general, and occasionally the male remains nearby to guard the eggs from predators.

Before the hatching, the young will emit vocalizations (sounds), to which the female responds simply by scooping the top of the nest, to help them out the eggs after which it will occasionally hold the young in her mouth and take them to the water, protecting them subsequently in certain cases during weeks or months. Upon birth the juvenile will measure only approximately 20 centimeters.

Man is an important enemy for all crocodile species through their hunt for the skin trade, in addition to the devastation of their natural habitat.

Crocodiles are truly breathtaking creatures, that in fact play a vital role in their Eco-systems. Therefore they should be protected and saved. We must discover how to live in the crocodile world as they have lived on this planet for the preceding 2 hundred million years, and that's much longer than mankind.

The author invites you to find out more about some other crocodile species like the Saltwater Crocodile or find out more about the legendary Gustave Crocodile, Burundi's man eater.

Learn The One Great Secret That Every Successful Person Knows, But You Don't - Go With The Flow!

The truth is that it can happen. You can get hit with circumstances that almost seem to paralyze you in your tracks. Unfortunately when you get hit with something that is very difficult to work through you may not be able to continue to move forward. However, that does not have to be the case.

Instead, you can learn how to hang onto hope that you will find a happy place again. You want to learn how to go with the flow of every moment.

Let's say that you find out that you are diagnosed with cancer. This is a set of circumstances that could allow you to spiral into a state of self pity and unhappiness. No good can come from that.

You want to get into a state of hope so that your body has the strength to fight the disease. This is not to suggest that you should just slap on a happy face and make your way through life. You want to go with the flow!

Be realistic and put things into perspective. Yes, cancer is a scary disease, but it is not a death sentence. You need to focus on the hope of the medical technologies at your finger tips. You want to go with the flow!

Additionally, when you are going with the flow you find that you start to appreciate everything that you have and not worrying about what you are missing. In tough circumstances like this it is an opportunity to be grateful for the people in your life. To be thankful for what you have in your life. More importantly you can be grateful for the fact that you have an opportunity to live.

While living with cancer can be a challenge, you are still breathing. That means that you should be happy for each morning that you wake up because it is one more morning that you have the opportunity to walk the earth. Yet this can be difficult to do.

It is unrealistic to expect to be perfectly happy each and every day. Keeping in mind that everything in life is temporary can help you to make your way through more difficult moments without losing sight of how lucky you are to even be having those moments. Happiness: Can You Learn To Be Happy?

It seems everyone has something to write about the pursuit of happiness. From model Miranda Kerr to the spiritual leader the Dali Lama to name but a few. Even with the abundance of books and articles we some how stray into negative practices and find ourselves lost, anxious, out of control knocking on the door of depression. People tend to know exactly what they should be doing; they can more often than not talk the talk but can't practice what they preach. It's as though they lost the ability to manage how and where they invest their thoughts.

Or is it that we have been given a brain but haven't found the users manual yet, realising it's not user friendly it tends to go off and do its own thing, not seeming to care if we are happy about it or not.

Amongst the myriad of information out there about happiness there is some interesting research is by American psychologists McCullough and Emmons. In their study they found that gratitude may have emotional and interpersonal benefits. That those who take a positive perspective on life's trials and tribulations may have more energy, well being and show more signs of overall contentment. Nothing new there, we all know the benefits of counting our blessings.

In the words of Charles Dickens (1897) 'Reflect on our present blessings, on which every man has many, not on our past misfortunes, of which all men have some'.

What we really need is quick and easy techniques to make us do it. Psychologist Dr Nick Lowe writing as Dr FeelGood for the Times, talks about taking five minutes daily to recall and savour what's going well in our lives. The point being that this will keep us on the path to a healthier and happier mind. I must reiterate that encouraging our well being requires we routinely relish in the positives. In practical terms this means we must become committed followers to the practice of positive reframing whenever and wherever we are. Actively wallowing in gratitude, thankfulness, and optimism by focussing on what's good in our lives and what we do well, as often as we can.

Using this simple technique can help banish a negative thought which is what we want because negative thinking is a sure way to unhappiness and even depression.

By replaying the positive memories over and over again we reprogram our mind to focus on what's good and the more you do this the easier and more habitual it becomes. As a result expect to be in a good mood; more productive; goal orientated and more willing to take on challenges. The pursuit of happiness ends when one accepts it is a state of mind which is free.

As Paul McKenna once said 'The trouble with happiness is people don't practice it'. Hypnotherapist and life coach Debbie Williams encourages her clients to keep a happiness journal to record and cherry pick the day's pleasures, it could be a conversation with a loved one, a funny email, a card in the post, someone you met, something you saw. Write it down and capture it and it will be the support you need to get you through a rainy day. Once you start your journal you can add past memories of good things, photographs and memorabilia as well as writing your hopes and dreams for the future. This will take back the reins of your mind to steer it towards happier times.

Some questions to ponder on:
Where could you be one month from now if you started recording good things everyday?
Where could you be a year from now just developing the discipline to record positive life enhancing moments?
Where could you be five years from now if you had made this a habit?

Is It True That Men, Like Old Dogs, Can't Learn New Tricks?

I have a nine-year old golden retriever, Duke, who, with sufficient incentive, typically a food treat, learns new tricks all the time. It's all about motivation for Duke, and he seems to get that, instinctively. The ability to learn new tricks parallel, between old dogs and men, is intended to disparage men, not dogs.

Everyone accepts dogs and their goofy behavior because no one really expects much from them. They love us no matter how dysfunctional we might be as long as we feed and care for them. There are few exceptions to this rule.

Men don't seem to be as exempt from the old dog/new tricks paradigm because they've been hammered for so long about their behavior that the notion of men ever learning a new trick seems far-fetched. That's tragic, because it isn't true, and it discourages men from trying to grow, emotionally. It lets men off the hook, but it doesn't exonerate them. In fact, men are frequently bashed because they have been slow to embrace new skills.

When women roll their eyes and joke about how lame men are in terms of emotional growth, it perpetuates an old myth and guaranties its continuation. It's become a self-fulfilling prophecy that women have contributed to, based on their past experiences, and men have proven correct by failing to live up to their potential. This is a lose/lose proposition for everyone. When men are repeatedly made to appear foolish and inept, there's no encouragement for change.

I'm a profound supporter of men, and in particular, men who make the effort by pushing their old limits to achieve the highest version of their manhood. This ability is in every single man and only needs gentle prompting to become actualized.

I urge women to encourage their men through positive reinforcement. I urge men to do the work and learn the new tricks that are awareness and control of their emotions.

Here's a good exercise that women can do with men that will help men move up the emotional awareness and control ladder.

Most men would admit that women are far more emotionally aware than they are. Since men already feel somewhat second-rate about having an emotional dialogue, they have to feel safe in order to become actively involved. A woman might suggest to her guy that whatever he shares with her about his feelings will never be judged, or subjected to her opinions. She might further let him know that she appreciates that his expressed feelings are his absolute truth and that she will respect that truth, no matter the consequences.

This guarantee can go a long way towards making a man feel safe about sharing his feelings. He will sense that his feelings are being honored and respected. He will have learned a new trick. It's that simple. Try it this weekend. Be sure you have this conversation in a quiet, private space. That will reinforce his sense of safety.

For twenty years, author and lecturer Ken Solin has helped men move beyond the issues that limit their lives. Both men and women follow Ken since his work is primarily about relationships.

Ken's website, http://www.kensolin.com/ is filled blogs about real life problems.

There's a frank, gritty, 42 minute television pilot about men that will surprise men and women alike.

There's also book excerpts from Ken's new, soon to be published book, Eight Angry Men.
